“…I never underestimate the power of pictures and words as…powers within a global culture…”

Barbara Kruger is an artist with powerful gift for inserting a graphically commanding and politically charged voice into the day-to-day workings of public life. We commissioned Kruger to create a multi-channel public information campaign against domestic violence a few years ago for the Liz Claiborne Women’s Work project. Her provocative designs for retail products, billboards, bus stops, radio, and television spots brought the issue to the attention of vast new audiences, and helped make the campaign one of the most successful cause marketing initiatives ever.

In her controversial work with Selfridges, and her more recent projects for Women In the City, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the new Broad Contemporary Art Museum, Kruger continues to inject a critical intelligence into the worlds of culture and commerce, challenging us to rethink our assumptions by deliberately disrupting the boundaries separating art from life.
